Guiding the Work of VAWCCWE

The executive committee oversees the operations of the Violence Against Women Coordinating Committee (VAWCCWE) while providing strategic guidance and support for all its activities, ensuring alignment with the mission and goals of the committee and objectives set forth by the Ministry of Children, Community, and Social Services (MCCSS)

Steering Our Collective Mission

As the steering body of VAWCCWE, the Executive Committee shapes strategy, ensures alignment, and supports meaningful action. These are their main roles:

  • Members ensure community partners, including Hiatus House, LAW/WECEN, and SACC are represented and actively joining in on discussions and decision-making processes.

  • Members respond timely to VAWCCWE communications and maintain regular attendance at meetings to ensure effective involvement in committee activities.

  • Members conduct a yearly review of the strategic plan in junction with the Working Group Chair and Coordinator, making adjustments as necessary to reflect changes and priorities.

  • Members approve strategic plans, action/implementation plans, and any significant projects. They review, deliberate, and provide timely approval for plans presented by the working group and Coordinator, ensuring alignment with VAWCCWE’s mission and strategic plan.

  • Members conduct twice yearly reviews of VAWCCWE materials, including TOR’s, Code of Conduct, and Orientation Manuals.

  • Members work collaboratively with the Working Group and Coordinator to develop and implement a yearly evaluation plan to assess the effectiveness of VAWCCWE’s initiatives and identifying areas for improvement.

  • Members manage the VAWCCWE budget, ensuring responsible use of resources and compliance with funding requirements, including the preparation and submission of budget reports to MCCSS.

  • Members ensure that the committee’s work promotes inclusion and equity, taking into account the diverse needs and experiences of those affected by violence.

  • Members adhere to a strict conflict of interest policy, ensuring that decisions are made in the best interest of the VAWCCWE.

  • Members maintain transparency in all operations and decision-making processes, ensuring that committee members, stakeholders, and the public are kept informed of VAWCCWE’s activities and initiatives.
