Leadership Table

Leadership at the Core of Our Response

The Leadership table is a strategic response to the growing challenge of Gender Based Violence (GBV) within Windsor-Essex communities. The primary goal of this Table is to solidify and advance initiatives to prevent femicide and address GBV/IPV as a recognized epidemic. This table serves as an important forum for decision-making, collaboration, and implementation of key actions.

How Our Leaders Drive Change

Our Table leads with purpose, ensuring our response to gender-based violence is united, effective, and community-driven. These are their main roles:

  • Members are expected to commit to and facilitate important actions, such as training staff on gender based violence (GBV) and/or intimate partner violence (IPV), selection of GBV/IPV specialists, and participation in decision-making to implement key recommendations.

  • Members respond to VAWCCWE Executive and Coordinator emails, and attend and participate in meetings.

  • Members facilitate training for all staff to recognize warning signs and risk factors of GBV/Intimate Partner Violence (IPV), explaining safe and effective responses, referral processes, and providing additional education and support to staff and survivors through GBV/IPV specialists.

  • Members implement confidentiality/privacy protocols that meet legal requirements while aiding femicide prevention, and support the creation of a collaborative approach to manage risk.

  • Members develop strategies to protect and support the GBV/IPV specialist role within organizations.

  • Members engage in creating and/or implementing a community-wide approach to risk assessment and management, using best practices and insights from other VAWCCs and recommendations from the Ontario Privacy Commission.

  • Members share important information with the committee about up-to-date research, referral sources, service pathways, evidence-based best practices, and any other information that can be used to build an effective, coordinated, and consistent response to violence against women in Windsor-Essex.
