Where Strategy Meets Action

As part of the Hub Without Walls (HWoW) initiative, Service Navigators based out of Hiatus House (supporting adults) and Windsor Essex Child/Youth Advocacy Centre (WECYAC; supporting youth) provide trauma-informed, survivor-centered support to individuals experiencing gender-based violence (GBV).

Navigators function across Windsor-Essex as part of a coordinated, mobile team embedded in the HWoW network. They act as trusted guides, helping survivors access services across multiple sectors, including housing, legal supports, trauma counselling, addictions support, and financial resources.

Navigators play a central role in reducing systemic barriers, improving access for underserved populations, and ensuring a seamless, coordinated response across the Windsor-Essex region.

Helping Survivors Move Forward & Navigate Supports

Our Service Navigators are often the first point of connection for survivors, helping them find the right supports quickly and safely. They:

  • Provide support in person, virtually, or in community-based locations, offering flexibility to meet client needs and to meet them where they are.

  • Help survivors navigate services through warm referrals to appropriate services with the HWoW network and beyond.

  • Support safety planning, and participate in high-risk case conferencing and referral coordination.

  • Work closely with other HWoW team members and community partners to ensure care is coordinated and wraparound.

  • Take part in outreach and prevention activities, raising awareness of HWoW services, GBV supports, and encouraging early intervention.

  • Deliver all services in ways that are trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and accessible to survivors from diverse backgrounds.

  • They assist in shaping project procedures and tools based on client feedback and on-the-ground experience

The HWoW model is based on a ‘no wrong door’ approach; meaning individuals can enter the network through any partner agency and still be connected to the full range of supports they need.
