Tools of Safety & Support for Survivors
As part of the Hub Without Walls (HWoW) initiative, the Risk & Response Coordinator based at Legal Assistance of Windsor (LAW) plays a lead role in strengthening the region’s response to high-risk cases of gender-based violence (GBV).
While based at LAW, the Risk & Response Coordinator works as a regional resource embedded within the HWoW network. This position is important to the development and implementation of standardized risk identification, assessment, and safety planning tools, and supports agency partners in responding to complex and potentially life-threatening situations.
The Risk Coordinator supports both survivors and the service system, ensuring that risk is recognized, documented, and addressed through coordinated, survivor-centered action.
Recognizing and Responding to Risk in Safer Ways
Our Risk and Response Coordinator plays a key role in keeping survivors safe and strengthening how our community responds to high-risk situations. They:
Lead the development and implementation of standardized risk assessment tools and protocols across HWoW partner agencies.
Conduct on-site or virtual risk assessments in high-risk GBV cases and support immediate safety planning and response.
Bring together partners across sectors (e.g., housing, healthcare, justice, and community organizations, to respond when risk is highest).
Support survivors and agency staff with risk assessments that are trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and inclusive.
Mentoring frontline workers on risk identification and risk-informed service coordination to ensure that safety considerations are embedded across all levels of care.
Provide mobile and remote support as needed across Windsor-Essex, offering flexible engagement with agency partners and survivors.
