More Access. More Support. More Healing.

Through the Hub Without Walls (HWoW)  initiative, Trauma Counsellors at the Sexual Assault Crisis Centre (SACC) provide long-term, trauma-informed counselling to survivors of gender-based violence (GBV).

The role is embedded at SACC, but operates as part of the broader HWoW network, with a focus on reaching diverse and underserved communities.

Our trauma counsellors expand access to support for survivors of GBV who may not traditionally qualify for services, addressing a critical service gap.

Behind the Healing: What a HWoW Trauma Counsellor Does

Our Trauma Counsellors provide safe, supportive spaces for survivors to heal and rebuild. They:

  • Offer specialized, trauma-focused counselling tailored to each survivor’s needs (including neurofeedback, where applicable) .

  • Provide flexible support (in person, virtually, and at different times of day) to meet survivors where they are.

  • Travel across Windsor-Essex to ensure counselling is accessible in different communities at at different agencies.

  • Work closely with HWoW partners to make sure care is coordinated and wraparound.

  • Help survivors process trauma, build coping skills, and strengthen resilience for long-term healing.

  • Provide inclusive, culturally responsive services, including specialized support for 2SLGBTQIA+ survivors and those from culturally diverse and marginalized communities.
